A Swamp Witch's Guide to True Love, Part 1
This is part of a four-word challenge prompt I did based on the words Banish, Wait, Advice, and Plot. I'm pleased to introduce you to a side character from my novel in progress.
If you’ve been following along with my writing, you may already know I have a novel in progress about two people who get magically sucked into a bad romantasy manuscript. Essentially, it’s a book within a book. Bookception, if you will.
The “fake” book they get sucked into is called “The Golden Court’s Curse” and features a witch who was banished to a swamp. When I did the randomly generated four word challenge, the words I received lent themselves perfectly to telling her backstory. For each word, I had to write a 100 word short story. This is the first of the four, Banish. Enjoy, and follow along to read the next three as they are released.
”Banish” — Or “How She Became a Swamp Witch”
Once upon a time, there was an absolutely, totally fictional Fae enchantress whose magical paintings revealed glimpses of destiny.
One day, she learned the hard way that prophetic paintings make terrible baby gifts—when High Lord Alistair saw his newborn son someday breaking a curse by falling for a human.
In his ungrateful rage, Alistair ripped the painting to shreds and banished the enchantress to the possibly shark-infested Forbidden Swamp (don’t ask).
Though rightfully peeved at being exiled and having her art destroyed, the enchantress wasn’t afraid.
She knew something Alistair didn’t: The canvas of fate is not so easily torn.
I hope you all enjoyed this tiny story. Stay tuned for parts 2-4!
